Motor Accident Compensation Calculator fatal claims · Motor Vehicles Act 1988

The Supreme Court has standardised almost every step of a fatal-accident award: the multiplier by the deceased's age (Sarla Verma, 2009), the addition for future prospects and the fixed conventional heads with their 10% enhancement every three years (Pranay Sethi, Constitution Bench, 2017), the deduction for personal expenses, and consortium for each dependant (Magma, 2018; Somwati, 2020). This page applies those rules step by step and cites the authority for each line, so a claimant, a tribunal clerk or a law student can see where every rupee comes from.

What this page does not do

It handles death claims under section 166 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, for an earning (or notionally earning) deceased. It does not compute injury claims, contributory negligence, the section 164 no-fault sum (₹5,00,000 for death after the 2019 amendment, without proof of fault, in lieu of a section 166 claim), or the special rules for a child's death. Tribunals depart from the standard figures in reasoned cases, and the consortium rule is contested (see below). The authority is a judgment on the point; this page is a calculator.
